Beachy Waves with a 1.25" Curling iron, texturizing paste, and a boar-bristled brush

Last week, I met Claire of Chanel Cosmetics. She has gorgeous, long hair that we decided to curl into beachy waves. We started by putting a dollop of Tela's Encore through the hair. The product is said to smooth frizzies - I also like using it to add a slight texture to the hair. We then wrapped 1" sections of hair around a 1.25 inch barrel curling iron. I misted each section with a light-weight hairspray before curling. As a final step, we gently brushed the curls with a boar-bristled brush to loosen up the curls and give it a beach-tousled effect. (A good, inexpensive one to try is Spornette's boar bristle teasing brush, available at beauty supplies for around $10). Finish by spraying with hairspray.

Another pony-tail style, easy & pretty

This is another up-do that is easy and pretty. Starting with either straight hair or hair that has been curled using a flat iron (see first tutorial) or a curling iron, you can then put it in a mid-height pony-tail. Take a strand of hair and wrap it around the rubber band and secure with a long bobby-pin. You can find long bobby-pins (often called roller pins) at either the drugstore or a beauty supply. They are sturdier for up-dos. Spray with a light-weight hairpsray.

Pretty ponytail

I made a quick trip to Chicago last week and came across a cute hair idea in United's airline magazine. After curling the hair (see first youtube tutorial, "Styling Loose Waves with a Flat Iron"), you can put it into a low pony-tail and add something like a pretty flower or printed sash. In my next post, I'll show another up-do, also a pony-tail style.
